Not all faculty are eligible to the group plan.
Eligibility
Hourly-paid teachers do not have access to the group insurance plan, nor do part-time teachers contracted for less than 33% workload per semester (the percentage is determined at the start of the semester). Non-permanent teachers with a minimum of 33% workload in a semester must be covered by the FNEEQ – La Capitale Insurance Plan (Plan # 1008-1010), unless they are covered by a similar plan (see below).
The application must be submitted within 30 days following the date on which you become eligible. You will have to decide which module of the modular insurance plan you prefer.
Teachers who are not eligible for our collective insurance plan will be covered by RAMQ for prescription drug insurance unless they are covered by a prescription drug insurance by another employer. If they are under 65 they must fill out an application to be covered by RAMQ. Information about this application can be obtained on the RAMQ website.
Exemptions
Under Quebec law, anyone who is eligible for a private insurance plan which is at least equivalent to the basic plan coverage offered by RAMQ, must enroll in the group insurance contract. However, the obligation to become a member does not apply to a person who, as a spouse, a child or a person suffering from a functional impairment, already benefits from coverage for the cost of pharmaceutical services and medications under a group insurance contract or employee benefit plan.
Participation in the basic health insurance plan is mandatory for all eligible teachers. In order for a teacher to be exempted, he/she must provide proof of a similar coverage under a different group insurance program. Ask Human Resources (HR) (see contact below) to exempt you from the plan.
